Position: Office Engineer

Service Sector: Rail and Transit Infrastructure

Location: Oakland, CA

Job Summary

Office Engineer (OE) will assist the Resident Engineer (RE) and/or Project Manager (PM) in all aspects of required office/construction engineering work, including setting up and maintaining project files, writing contract change orders, and processing progress payments.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Manage and maintain the document control process for all project documents; maintain controlled distribution lists and logs

  • Review requests for change, draft change orders, develop independent cost estimates

  • Review schedule updates, submittals, work plans and other documents from Contractor for completeness and accuracy

  • Track, process and distribute submittals, RFIs, design submittals, shop drawings and work plans amongst project team members as determined by the RE.

  • Provide technical support to Resident Engineer in responding to Requests for Information (RFIs)

  • Monitor and schedule all necessary quality assurance construction staking/surveys, field and material inspections and preliminary, acceptance, and specialty testing as required throughout the contract

  • Generate and process monthly progress payments with assistance from inspectors

  • Prepare and disseminate weekly/monthly progress reports

  • Maintains as-built drawings and incorporate change order updates

  • Assists the RE in reviewing extra work bills and notices of potential claim

  • Support coordination with utility companies, 3rd parties and stakeholders

  • Assist in preparing project closeout documentation

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. Civil (or equivalent) degree plus 3 years of experience in rail and transit infrastructure sector as Office Engineer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in working on rail and transit infrastructure projects.

  • Good communication and presentation skills (oral and written)

  • Problem-solving skills and responsiveness

  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite and other proprietary project document control systems
