Description
The existing 15-pile span timber bridge was removed and replaced with a 4-pile span precast concrete bridge. The replacement bridge is approximately 5.9 feet higher than the existing bridge, providing clearance for project flood water elevations in the Bolsa Chica Channel. The length of the bridge increased from 300 feet to 340 feet to accommodate this change in bridge profile.
Services
PreScience provided construction management and inspection services to the County of Orange Public Works for the Edinger Avenue Bridge replacement over Bolsa Chica Channel Project.
Challenges
The nature of the ocean provided many challenges to this project, largely due to tidal fluctuations of 10 to 15 feet of corrosive salt water. This required stage construction, utilizing a trestle. In doing so, we were careful to navigate the construction process to protect and remain in compliance of several marine, wildlife, and environmental permits. In addition to all of these challenges, we worked hard to maintained traffic on the existing bridge, as well as keep up a positive relationship with the adjacent neighborhood.
